The black areas is just bad normals. They appear whenever you make new faces. Go to Select>All in vertices mode and then Surface>Normals>Calculate. It should get rid of the black.
But I thought you modeled cities before. Then you should know this already.

The black parts on the models are indeed just bad nurmals, and use the calculation tool will fix them. If you see the car shapes not smooth and you see triangles on it, switch from the flat shading view with Q key.
