June 23 2010 Earthquake

Postby Silent1Unknown » Wed Jun 23, 2010 11:42 pm

I was sitting at home and studying for school when I suddenly felt a strange rocking sensation. It wasn't violent, but a slow backward and forward movement and lasted about 20 seconds. I looked at the time on my watch and it read 1:45 PM. Then I looked around to see if anything else was shaking, but nothing. So I thought, "...Either I am studying too hard and my mind is going crazy or this is an earthqauke...". After a quick re-thought, I was sure it was an earthquake. :P

After it ended, I checked around outside to see if anything else was shaking. I only noticed ripples in the puddles (but that could be due to wind). Forunately, there wasnt any damage.

When I checked the news, it was confirmed that a 5.0 magnitude earthquake hit somewhere in Quebec but felt around some major cities such as Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto (where I live), Windsor and some US states such as New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. You can read a summary here, details here and a map here.

It was a pretty scary feeling for me since its the first strong earthquake I ever felt. Luckily there was only shaking here and no damage. But surely the epicentre had some minor damage.

Has anyone else experienced an earthquake or other natural disaster?

If you believe the 2012 thing, then you're a fool beyond belief.

Anyway, I heard about that quake a couple hours ago, glad that everything's fine. I have experienced an earthquake, several hurricanes, lots of tornadoes.

I've got an experience with an earthquake in 2002 happened more than 100 kilometers from where I live. I was at school, and I felt it just a bit; there was the school evacuation that day. That earthquake was pretty strong, and there were about 20 deaths because of a school collapse where there was the epicenter.
And how not forget the very bad earthquake happened in April 2009 in Abruzzo, more far away from where I live, but it had been a great hurt.
