Diesel

Postby mm2_Turkish » Sat Jan 15, 2011 5:34 pm

While reading an article about the Volkswagen Gol, I noticed the following sentence: "In Brazil, diesel-powered cars are not allowed. " Is that true?

If yes, why are diesel-powered cars in Brazil are not allowed? Is there a special article about it?

Diesel engines used for automobiles in Turkey from 80s. And now, diesel engines are most popular powerpacks (second one is LPG, they are riding bombs) due to highly prices of gasoline. Sorry but, I'm really surprised.

Wow, I never knew that (true or not) but that is really odd. This is general, so this topic is interesting, anything can be posted here.

Not necessarily, diesel with a high sulfur content is dirtier than regular petrol. In the US we use "clean" diesel (low sulfur diesel) but in other un-developed countries they use "dirty" diesel (high sulfur diesel).

wrong! :) btw depends by the catalization system of the single cars.. but a diesel car after some years became moooore dirtier than a petrol car..

my e36 is 19 years old but it's more clean that a 7/8 years old diesel car... ;) ;)

Now, I know a thing or two about cars and Diesel IS cleaner than Petroleum/Gas. Every fuel has a power rating according to its 'potency' and Diesel fuel burns more efficiently than Petrol within the same power rating, which means it is less pollutant than Gas in the same power rating. So yes, a Peterbilt 18 wheeler produces more pollution than a Toyota petrol powered car, because it uses way more fuel. However, it burns the Diesel fuel more efficiently than the Petrol car because Diesel is made up of a simpler compound. I'm not talking about Diesel engine Vs. Petrol engine, I'm talking about the fuel.

I have no idea what that all meant, or how a engine works, but I now just learned that petrol = gas, and diesel is also in cars and it does not sound like a huge truck, correct me if I'm wrong. :|
