Sound working problem

Postby Dytak » Mon Jul 08, 2013 12:34 am

I just reinstall my Midtown Madness 2, and I can't hear the sound of the game, only the city sounds and music, anyone know why?

I'm using a Windows XP.

Curious problem, don't remember to have read a precedent one. The city sounds and music works by using Direct Music, a component of the DirectX 7, used by MM2 engine. The rest of the sounds are normal audio waves (WAV file format).
What's written in the game audio options at the device item? If there isn't nothing, maybe a sound drivers update would be helpful. Select the main audio driver, anyway.

The audio device or drivers probably isn't the problem Franch

Check if your sound effects volume is full, that is the only thing I can think of

Also, the game uses FMOD to do live sound pitch shifting for most things, such as engines, others are just using FMOD's room type sound system.

I've had to use FMOD in a game before so I know this stuff :P

The problem can't be of a banal total low volume, because he can already hear only some of the game audio, read his post. If is possible update the audio drivers, it's good do it and then check if it helped.

It seems that you're using Primary Sound Driver in options. It doesn't work for some PCs and you can hardly hear some sounds, it's problem of some emulators too.

If you've another choices in sound driver except Primary Sound driver, then use that and try.

If it won't work, some below:

Download a software audio driver. I've 2 downloaded software and 1 hardware and 1 primary sound driver. Everyone seems fine for me but I used to use DFX Audio Enhancer 11, gives you best sound. But requires registration and hard to use.

My suggestion is to get Realtek HD Audio Driver Manager, it'd surely work and it's free.

Which windows are you using? And what is it's colour depth? 32-Bit or 64-Bit?

I got links for Realtek HD Audio Driver.

For Windows 8 and 7 32-Bit:

For Windows 8/7/Vista 64-Bit:

For Windows Vista 32-Bit:

For Windows XP 32-Bit and 64-Bit:

I hope it might help you.

Or the most basic option for sound is turned off?

Make sure to check 'Sound FX' to hear game sounds like of engine, collisions, etc..
