Motor Island

I have to admit, the Inland Empire map was simply too big and I lost interest in doing such a big map. Especially on my own.

Therefore, it's time to do what everyone else seems to enjoy doing and create an island!

WARNING: IMAGE IS HUGE!!!!

Cool map. :)

I plan on making this a small and simple map. To get an idea of how big it is, think of that long stretch of road I did for the Inland Empire and basically compare it to that. ;)

What I mean is that the length of that road is roughly the length of the entire island from one side to another. :D

So it's like a track where you can just whip some cars around in the sun right? Cool :D

IMO, this is still too complicated for your first track. I see some 5-way intersections which are gonna be deadly to make. And too many roads...curvy ones at that too!

My advice: Try a small, rectangular map, with roads following a grid-like pattern. Dont make more than 5 roads or intersections. Once you get the kinks sorted out on this, then move on to bigger things. ;)

From the map this looks a more interesting city, but I agree with Silent1Unknown, it's still big and hard to make as own first map; also, this time there are more curvy roads and more complex intersections.

The test of the other city was going nicely with a good result in-game, the more visible problem was of the intersection sidewalks corners, just because they weren't correctly made. So, he has already done a successful test like you suggest, now he can just go ahead with a new one with correctly made intersections, and then go ahead in that way with the making of a such big city.

Actually, the map I made does not reflect the final product. Obviously the roads can't be as curvy as the map, but they can be damn close.

I finished my first complex intersection, and I'm VERY satisfied:

Planning out ahead of time:

Everything is under control, don't worry! I feel much more comfortable doing this map than the other one. :)

UPDATE:

The intersection does indeed work, with one exception:

Image

Just need to fix that sidewalk there in the corner and it'd be perfect! Another "puzzle piece" to add to the collection!

Well it looks like I won't get much done tonight, I should probably get some homework done now. Track making is time consuming!

UPDATE 2:

Alright, I seriously don't have the time to fix it, but maybe you guys can diagnose why the highlighted sidewalks don't work -

Image

Arrows indicate MY suspicions as to why they're broken when imported into MM2CT. I will check back here before I go to bed, but for now I have to go. BTW, I decided to split that intersection in half and mirror it for some better results.

Nice, the map looks really curvy, like a Picasso work

Will it be based on real country/USA state? Or just island? :P

It's just an island that I'm making in my image. Think of a vacation destination

Good luck with this map, I think these curves won't give problems

YES! I fixed it! I'm going to get a city block set up real quick for an in-game test!

UPDATE:

Here's a stretch of road that has working BAI, but crashes in game -

Image

Probably crashes since I didn't put in any GROUND_

Nice to have fixed the intersection issue. The cause of the crash isn't given by the lacking of at least one GROUND_ object, I did a working try once with only roads and intersections and with the .bai file for the traffic. Try to do a try with some more roads and intersections, but actually is needed to check better why it crashes in-game.
Anyway, good luck with this project.

Does anyone know why I'm getting FindHeap errors? What does that usually mean? I need to know what I should ask myself in order to diagnose the problem, because right now I have no idea what's going on. It's probably something very simple.

-I only have one GROUND_ object for testing
-I did not texture anything for testing
-I have 6 Intersections, 5 BAI Roads

Here is a picture:

Here is a ZIP with all the necessary map files (inside you'll find a 3DS file - that's what was imported):

Thanks to anyone who can help me figure out this dilemma! Until then, I will halt any progress to this map!
