Here I go : Something better than last time (remember my last one?), this one will have progress, update itself with addons, and not freeze when you download. Will be in beta in 2 hours.

Post it then =)

I remember your old attempt of making this program, but, again with this bad idea? A program to download add-ons and mods directly in the game folder is a wasting for many reasons, full stop...

Howcome? Reasons?

It automatically uses a database and shows pics from online, so it much better

The reasons of why this is a bad idea for all are a lot: you need and have to care to keep updates this service with the new releases, because it's a service at all the effects, you just don't make the program, release it and then all ends there; it's against the rights of the releases authors, because you get their work not in the way that they can decide to want and how they made, that's from website places and by getting all what they released (archive with Readme and other possible files); in this way you download only one .ar file, and this can't be applied to some mods and add-ons with patches included, must be indicated that other .ar files have been included in the release besides the main one, the user have to give caution in this, but why not have they all together in an archive; worse is if the downloaded .ar files have even been renamed than the original ones, the .ar files naming way is important for the working of the mods.
Unlike other games, in MM2 is easy add and remove mods and add-ons, unlike other games where's needed a program and their files can be more, so, why have to use a program for the simple operation of download them... What does costs keep checking game mods and addons containers websites like this one to see the new releases published? Then this this website isn't only that, there's a screenshots gallery and a forum, you have much more from here. You talk about show pictures, and isn't so in a website like this? Don't you see that almost every download has its representative image (not everything can be explained through an image) besides a description and other info about it?
You say much better... where? People would just check it for curiosity and maybe for a bunch of time to download something though it, but then will come in websites like this that are more attractive and to see and download the new add-ons and mods...

+1. Though I don't really COMPLETELY understand what Franch said, I see what he means. If a simple internet browser and archiving software can do it all, why waste time (and HDD space, even if it's only 10mb) making another program?

Well, I should have a beta ready by tonight, the progress didn't work as i wanted it to, but I will fix that too, all programming was done this morning because I didnt feel like doing it last night, but tonight i will finish the programming, I already got an image viewer so you can maximize the image, + it keeps aspect ratio.

I will show pics soon :)

Omfg...I definitely bet you, Aaron, haven't read Franch's recent post have you. You gotta understand the whole process and situation. Although I'm not quite sure how old you are right now. If 14 then, Im just speechless, its just too soon, it ain't like the worlds gonna end in 2012. AM I RIGHT?!

Agree with Franch and whoami, I do NOT know why there's a point of making the minority of programs that aren't needed? I know I would do it but not for this game. Remember: MIDTOWN MADNESS 2 IS OLD! Well, not more than a decade...just not modern. Im not quite sure, but who knows this may take up more resources from the Hard Disk Drive than just Downloading an add-on -> Save it to desktop -> Drag it to the Midtown madness 2 directory folder. HOW HARD CAN THAT BE?!
Although this is only beta but if it was the final version than I WOULD be impressed, but its just not right, you gotta wait until the majority of people accept this program. Which I doubt. (All this is my opinion, so think first before you say it...)

And sorry for off-topic Franch, I do not know how this stuff came out of my head.

Interesting result, pratically this new version downloads the files available at MMArchive. Better use an existing website than have a dedicated server where upload the files. The add-ons titles and authors matching is messed up, looks that only one name can be displayed for each title... I guess that the program works downloading the selected archive saving it in a folder, better the Windows Temp one, and extracts the .ar files in it into the game folder, initially set up; pretty the same can be done about the Readme viewing in .txt file format.
But still, the manual websites checking for new downloads and their manual downloading and using, it's the best. Use programs to replace simple and better manual operations, it's kinda senseless.

The point..? I see that you can program, no doubts whatsoever, but why waste effort in a program that's not gonna be used?

Easier way in Chrome: 1) Open the huge list (of cars, addons, whatever)
2) Ctrl+F, and type in the name of the addon.
