Annoying YIKES! message fix

Postby Kevin_Hahn » Mon Oct 13, 2014 1:42 am

I'm not 100% sure this hasn't been done before, but I found a permanent fix to get rid of the annoying YIKES! message that we all know pops-up after an error.

First step: DELETE the "TROUBLE.rtf" file from C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Midtown Madness 2

Second step: Copy the "Midtown2.exe" file from C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Midtown Madness 2

Third step: Paste it in the same location that you copied it

Fourth step: Rename it as "TROUBLE.rtf.exe"

Fifth step: Give me feedback that it worked for you! Or not! :P

Enjoy!

MM2 Hack allows you to launch the game without the YIKES message even if your game crashed recently.

Oh, great. Thanks for saying that. I thought surely there was another fix for this.

Yeah, ok... My idea was quite silly, but practical. I think this topic can be deleted now? :P

But will 'TROUBLE.rtf.exe' be interpreted as a .rtf file? I'm yet to try this.. nice thinking! :)
Off-topic response: Is it from BeamNG Alpha?

Yes it is.

Also it will be interpreted as a RTF file since MM2 uses sys("start TROUBLE.rtf"); in it's code. Therefore the same thing as typing that in CMD.EXE

I just made a .bat script which checks for the presence of a mm2.lock file, deletes it if it's found and starts the game. Then I made a shortcut to the .bat file and set MM2's icon to it. Works like a charm.

Or you could just start MM2 like "midtown2.exe -nolockcheck" and have MM2 do the work.
