car problems can't be work and no solution

Postby pibraclab » Sat Jun 25, 2016 10:19 pm

Hi all !

Me and Franch88 need your help. I made a new car project for MM2. Modeling is good, files are good. However, the vehicule works to Franch88 but not for me (and Paulideo who try it too) and we don't know why. We need your help to know who can use it or not. Me, i can't use it because game crash after launch game (after car selection).

https://42.meup.org/KwJrTgNU.rar (file available 42h !)

Another car is a 6 wheels vehicule and we don't know why it crash too. Franch88, please, upload the naja here.

Maybe someone find the problem to fix it.

Thanks

I tested your car and it works fine for me:

I checked all your files and it seems fine, and it's poly count doesn't seem the reason. Maybe incompatibilities with your game and/or other mods you might have?

Just saying, for those who want to try the car, that must use the Heap Patcher to be able to select and play it without a game crash, because it uses a very big texture (4096x4096 pixels).
Good that it works also for you, Andy.

About the Extranimal Naja problem, it should be something related with the 3D mesh... Ok, here's the file, available for a limited time. Putting it in the game folder, the game freezes during the first loading, and you need to shut it down from Windows Task Manager.

Oh, so that's the reason... Since I already use it, it worked just fine for me. I know without the patcher anything higher than 1024x1024 makes the game unstable.

Give a check to the second car, Andy, posted in my above post.

That's another reason, but not this one. Pibraclab told me to have already patched the game EXE. His case sounded to be related with graphic issues, to me...

That one crashes for me on the initial loading screen. I replaced some of the tune files and even exported it myself and it didn't fixed it. Quite weird bug, maybe related to the wheels? They seem fine.

Little precision : texture files of the citroen are not in 4096x4096 but 2048x2048. I have change last time.

For the Heap patcher, yes i have it already. I have too Riva's traffic mod V4 and reflec 3.1 mod, MM2 HD mod and C new Hud. Others cars and maps i add works good.

Maybe it still exceeds the heap size, after all afaik it increases the value not to a very high and crazy one. Still, I know by experience that resolution is a sure crash without the heap fixer, but even with it if you have many mods (plus Riva traffic pack is quite high poly for traffic cars) it might still crash. Try to disable traffic and give it one more try.

Off-topic: Thanks for using my mod :D

What's the use of such ridiculously oversized textures anyway? Using separate textures for the body (not only one huge texture block - you have a lot of blank space too!) and better texture management you can achieve the same result, even better. You can check how default MM2 cars are made.

I use a great size to have a good quality and to limit texture number. If i use a size too small, quality is too bad and too blurry, particulary for text and logos. However, as i say previously, i decreased size by half.
Usually, i don't like to do complicated textures like this, with much logos. I prefer to do a simple color like street car or rally cars prototype.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

So how about having the decals as separate textures then? MCSR used such method. You can do the same with headlights and tail lights too!

About the 6 wheeled car: you have to add the M lod to the wheels because if a car has 6 wheels then it must have all lods unlike other cars and also use TLIGHT_L etc not TLIGHT_H. Dunno if it's really a problem with those light names but it's better to name everything like it's in game

But there is some weird glitch, I think it's because the big wheels and their positions

Very nice work, Sajmon. Anyway, a weird thing is that I was getting the same game freeze problem also when I tried to remove the two extra wheels.
I'd say that's right, the too big wheels with an unusual place cause that glitch. The same thing is happening with another fantasy vehicle made by Pibraclab some months ago (he knows well).
