MM2 Crashes on loading

Postby Rush_Freak » Mon May 05, 2008 10:52 pm

Well, first I have a problem with mm2 starting up.
Whenever I go to start it up (in safe mode also) it always displays the "YIKES" error message everyone knows about, but if i leave the error message open and try to open mm2 again it works fine! :?: (mm2 starts up ONLY if i leave the "YIKES" message open.)
But that's beside the problem, the real problem is that whenever i go to load a city up, the game freezes on about 95% loading! I just don't get why it's doing that!
So could someone please tell me whats wrong with these two mess-ups!!! They're really making me mad! :x
(I've tried reinstalling, and the no-cd patch, Nothing works!)

Please, remove some add-on .ar files like cars, mods and tracks. MM2 can't load too much files in they, and so it going crash while first loading. Try removing some mod in particular.
About the city loading crash, it depends which city you're loading. If they're SF and London, there's a conflict between some mods, especially the cop mods.

Oh, didn't think of that, i just dl'd the sf cop mod, so that might be why
Also i dont use any add-on citys, and i haven't played mm2 in quite awhile (about 5 months *gasp*) so that might be why, thanks!
oh yeah why do you think this is happening?: "Whenever I go to start it up (in safe mode also) it always displays the "YIKES" error message everyone knows about, but if i leave the error message open and try to open mm2 again it works fine! (mm2 starts up ONLY if i leave the "YIKES" message open.)"

Is probably that one of the available cop mods, and for that I mean a mod that changes the default cop cars models.
"Whenever I go to start it up (in safe mode also) it always displays the "YIKES" error message everyone knows about, but if i leave the error message open and try to open mm2 again it works fine! (mm2 starts up ONLY if i leave the "YIKES" message open.)"
This is normal. Always after an MM2 game crash, a file named mm2.lock is automatically created in the MM2 game folder; this files is used by the game in the next launch to open the YIKES.RTF file, placed in the main game folder too.
After this, the file mm2.lock is deleted, and also closing the opened Yikes file (it opens with a word processor program like Microsoft Word, if installed), the game will run.
However I've understood that you've said that the game won't run if you close the Yikes, maybe the text file, and whenever you run it, it lets display every time that message. If so, this isn't normal.

Try to use the MM2 Game Loader program. It allows to enable and disable any installed .ar file with a double click on them, it let ignore to the game the generated mm2.lock file and it finds any files conflicts between all the installed .ar files; for example, is possible to know why and how some textures of a texture mod are replaced by others from a similar mod.

Well, i used mm2 game loader (already had it) and disabled all the mods, the cop mod was the only conflict i found (it figures) so that fixed the "YIKES" problem. but, now mm2 works fine except that it only crashes on cruise mode!
>Insert giant "WTF?!" sign here< So i don't know what could be wrong...
(and thanks for all the help you've given me so far!) ;)

It's weird that the game crashes only while loading a city in cruise mode... I guess also without any add-on .ar file.

Okay this is just really wierd... Now, it'll only load ONE blitz track in London, nothing in SF!
>Insert even bigger "WTF?!" sign here< Maybe it's because I installed the dynamic time-of-day mod... (and yes I already tried disabling it) (and i also use the no-cd patch)

I mean, I got other games that I like more, but I'm just kinda sad that my mm2 might be busted... :(

Excuse me, but what's this "Insert even bigger "WTF?!" sign here"? A displayed message? :?

No, I just typed it for fun...
And, are you sure you don't have even the slightest clue what could be going wrong with my game?

I don't know, try to uninstall the game, then delete its folder in Program Files directory, re-install it, install the Windows XP patch and use the No-CD Crack downloading it from here.
No, I just typed it for fun...
Ah, ok. I had a bad thought about it. :P
